Hi there! Today I’m going to take you on a mini trip to visit a person that I always admire and look up to, and that person is Nick Vujicic. I first came across him when I browsed YouTube: he was on a table with an abnormally small left foot, and he seemed notably short for his age. So, I thought this young man was performing some sort of magic tricks. But, as I watched the video, I found that it was actually a speaking event held by him. Although it was only a few minutes, the way he talked captured my attention to the fullest. Never had I ever been inspired this much, after such a short speech, so I decided to look into Nick’s first book: Life Without Limits.
Only a few pages into the book had me questioning so much about his life: how did he dress and how did he eat? And I don’t know if you’re aware of his condition, but he was born without limbs! No arms and legs except for a tiny left foot that helps him walk. His current situation really was hopeless and desperate to look at, but nothing stopped him from giving me a huge and sincere smile on the front cover. So, I was wondering, how is he able to smile so happily as if he’s normal just like everyone else and as if he’s satisfied with his current condition? And there’s a very powerful sentence that he said changed how I view myself and my life: “There were times where I sort of looked at my life and thinking, well, I can’t do this and I can’t do that and you keep on concentrating on the things that you wish you had, and all the things you wish you didn’t have, and you sort of forget what you do have.” Although I’m not in his position, I was able to relate and reflect, and really think about all these moments when I was complaining about why my life isn’t perfect, and why don’t I own certain things. This made me realize how immature I am. But now (thanks to his inspirational story), I’m able to grow from a childish kid to a more mature and grateful person (hopefully).
Another thing that really caught my attention was the fact that Nick has never had a chance to experience the feeling of touching objects with his hands or feet, yet, he experiences his life to the fullest. When I think about that, lots of people (including me), discount themselves from achieving great things because they don’t think they are good enough. However, Nick’s accomplished great things, such as surfing without any limbs! No limbs! I can’t imagine how difficult that is, while I wouldn’t even dare to try new things with a strong and healthy body of mine! It really is astounding when I compare myself to him, but I’m grateful that this book is here to motivate me.
He is an inspiring man without limbs, without what he should’ve had, and without what he hoped he’d have. But! He is living an exceptionally good life that no one ever thought he’d be able to have. And every time I read this biography, I can always find new things to look into about myself and reflect.
Life Without Limits: Inspiration for a Ridiculously Good Life truly is the book inspiring you and giving you a new perspective on life and yourself. What’s great about this biography is that readers can always relate and connect to his life, and I think that’s a bonus point making this book even better for readers of different backgrounds and lifestyles. I rate this book 5 out of 5 and it is available to readers of all age groups. Make sure to check out this book and feel free to comment your thoughts below!
