Hi everyone! Today I thought I would try to do a book tag! I've seen people do tags all over booktube and bookstagram, and they seem so fun. I will be doing the 20 Questions book tag, which I saw over on Paperfury's blog. Unfortunately I do not know the original creator of this tag, but if anyone knows, please let me know.

Without further ado...

1. How many books are too many for a series?

I feel like this depends on the book. If it’s a really amazing book with a great plot, then there will never be enough books in that series. But also, you don’t want a series that’s just adding books for the sake of adding books and not to enhance the story (*ahem* Harry Potter and the Cursed Child). I would say my ideal amount of books would be three or four.

2. How do you feel about cliffhangers?

I mean it’s a great way to keep your readers hooked and makes for a memorable read, if done well. I do appreciate a good cliffhanger, but I will complain about it the whole time :)

3. Hardcover or paperback?

Hardcoverrr! I love how nice and sophisticated it feels, and it always feels like a treat to read one for some reason. Of course, at the end of the day, it doesn’t really matter if it's paperback, hardcover, or an ebook, as long as I’m able to read it.

4. Favourite book?

Oh my god, where do I even start? It’s so hard to pick one so I’ll list a few.

Favourite YA dystopia: Scythe by Neal Shusterman

5. Least favourite book?

Hmm, I don’t really know. There are many books that I like more than others, and some I don’t like as much, but I don’t want to label them as my “least favourite book”. I think there are good and bad things from each book, even the ones I didn’t enjoy as much. We can all learn from each book we read, and I’ll just leave it at that.

6. Love triangles, yes or no?

This is a hard one. Again, it depends. Usually I’m not a huge fan of them, I feel like it’s an easy way to just create some conflict between characters, but there are many more better and interesting ways to do so. That being said, if a love triangle is done really really well, then I don’t have any issue with that.

7. The most recent book you couldn’t finish?

Call Me By Your Name by Andre Aciman. I really really wanted to finish it, but I got to around halfway before I put it down. There was nothing wrong with the book, I loved the writing so much, and the overall *aesthetic* of it, but I unfortunately couldn’t finish it. I found it to be a bit too *explicit* for my taste, and kind of felt uncomfortable with certain passages. I will definitely try to read it again when I’m a bit older though.

8. A book you’re currently reading?

Ok, if I’m being honest, I haven’t read anything recently. I’m in a reading slump right now, where I don’t have a lot of motivation to read, and I can’t focus on books. Has anyone else felt this way before? Is this something you can relate to? Anyways, I didn’t want to force myself to read a book, because I want reading to be something I enjoy, and not a burden. If you really want to know, the most recent book I read was Call Me By Your Name (which you know I didn’t finish), and before that was a reread of They Both Die at the End.

9. Last book you recommended to someone?

An Ember in the Ashes! It’s soo good, and I will never not recommend this series. Who else is excited for the fourth instalment coming out this December?

10. Oldest book you’ve read by publication date?

I think it would have to be The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas, published in 1844.

11. Newest book you’ve read by publication date?

The Toll by Neal Shusterman, published in November 2019. (This was the third book of the Scythe series.)

12. Favourite author?

Oh this one is tricky. I don’t pay too too much attention to authors, but some of my favourites include Agatha Christie, Patrick Ness, Rick Riordan, and Erin Morgenstern.

13. Buying books or borrowing books?

So fun fact about me: I actually own like 3 books. I rarely if ever buy books because I’ve always borrowed from the library or read ebooks on my phone. I would love to buy books, but they are so expensive. I find that a library works just as well. Plus it’s eco-friendly!

14. A book you dislike that everyone seems to love?

Divergent by Veronica Ross. I’m not even sure if everyone loves this book, because most of my friends agree with me when I say I really don’t like it. I find it very cliche and the tropes were overdone. Plus, I don’t agree with the message. Divergent was alright, but it got so much worse as the series went on, in my opinion. Sorry, Divergent just really isn’t my thing. (Let me know if I should do a rant review on Divergent sometime!)

15. Bookmarks or dog ears?

Ok...so...I know I’m going to get immediately disowned by the book community when I say this, but I dog-ear pages. I KNOW I KNOW, I'M SO SORRY. Feel free to hate me now. Part of this comes from the fact that I don’t own any books and grew up borrowing library books. All those books were already dog-eared, so I just did it too. I never got into the habit of using a bookmark I guess. But I promise, I don’t dog-ear my own books anymore. Or at least I’m trying not to.

16. A book you can always reread?

Oh my there’s so many. I love rereading books, especially with my extremely limited supply of books. Some rereads include Harry Potter, Scythe, and An Ember in the Ashes. I could really go on and on, but I’ll just keep it short.

17. Can you read while listening to music?

No, not really. I actually find myself not being able to do much of anything with music in the background. I do like reading in a public space though, as the background noise helps me focus.

18. One POV or multiple?

I don’t mind either. Both make for an interesting read. I have noticed that all my favourite books contain multiple perspectives, so do what you want with that information.

19. Do you read a book in one sitting or over multiple days?

Usually multiple days. It depends on what I’m reading, how long it is, and how I’m feeling. I can usually take anywhere from two days to three weeks to finish a book.

20. Who do you tag?

Of course I tag the other bloggers of READefineToday. So Amie, Meilun, and Sarah. I also tag anyone who wants to participate!

And that's it! I'm done the tag! This was so much fun to do, so I will definitely be looking out for more tags I can do. In the meantime, what are your opinions? How do you feel about love triangles? Who is your favourite author?

Happy reading!
